Pier Point Wins National Fish & Chip Shop of the Year
We’re absolutely thrilled to share some amazing news – Pier Point Bar & Restaurant has been crowned Fish & Chip Shop of the Year at the Fishermen’s Mission Awards 2025!
The award was presented this week at the charity’s Annual General Meeting, held at the iconic Trinity House, Tower Bridge in London. The theme of the event, “Staying Afloat,” couldn’t be more fitting – a celebration of resilience, support, and the community spirit that helps keep the UK’s fishing industry strong.
This isn’t just about serving up Britain’s favourite dish (although we’re pretty proud of that too!) – it’s about the heart behind the haddock. The Fishermen’s Mission recognised us not only for the quality of our fish and chips, but for our long-standing commitment to supporting the charity, our fishing communities, and the people who go to sea to bring us our catch.
Over the years, we’ve raised thousands of pounds for the Fishermen’s Mission – through events, matched donations, and even getting our team involved with buckets and fancy dress (some of you may remember “Albert”!). We’ve worked closely with the incredible Helen Lovell-Smith, the charity’s Area Officer for the South West, whose dedication to fishermen and their families is truly inspiring.
As our owner Lorraine Arnold said at the awards:
“The work Helen and the wider Fishermen’s Mission team do is nothing short of incredible. They are often the first people there when tragedy strikes or when quiet hardship sets in. As a business that proudly serves sustainable seafood, we know our industry relies on these incredible men and women who go out to sea, often at personal risk. Supporting them is not just a nice thing to do—it’s a responsibility.”
The Fishermen’s Mission receives no government or lottery funding, and yet their impact is enormous. In 2024 alone, they gave out over £400,000 in grants, made more than 1,600 harbour visits, and supported over 20,000 people across the UK’s fishing communities.
We’re honoured beyond words to receive this national award – and even more honoured to continue supporting the mission behind the Mission.
