A Bit About Us

Situated adjacent to Torquay’s marina, with spectacular views out to the Bay. Determined to return to the days of quality fish and chips, we offer a smaller menu, with the best quality ingredients. We are 100% committed to only using fish from sustainable sources.

ALL of the fish (cod, haddock and plaice) sold at Pier Point Chippy is MSC certified. We believe The Fish & Chip Industry has a huge responsibility in ensuring our fish supplies are plentiful for future generations, and Pier Point Chippy is humble in playing a small part in this very important scheme.

OUR MISSION

We believe when it comes to providing good, quality food, there can be no compromise. Which is why we are committed to using only the best ingredients, whilst maintaining competitive prices.

We know the exact trawler our sustainable fish comes from; we know the farm where our potatoes are grown!

We want our customers to be confident when eating with us, they are eating quality produce every time.

‘Quality isn’t expensive, it’s priceless’

Our Produce

Sourced & Sustainable

Our Potatoes

We have used the same local potato supplier since we started nearly 5 years ago! We can rely on WILLIAMS POTATOES to source the very best potatoes available, monitor the dry matter and sugar levels of each batch of potatoes.

Our chips are freshly made on site – daily! Our rumblers work tirelessly to bring you the cleanest chips possible. We use a wider blade to produce a thicker chip which in turn is a healthier chip!

Our Fish

We pride ourselves on only using sustainable, MSC certified Cod, Plaice & Haddock. Traceability is hugely important to us, and we want to know there will always be plenty of fish in the sea to support the industry we love and to continue to provide a quality product for our customers. Our fish is trawled in the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans and frozen within hours of catching, ensuring the fish on your plate is as fresh as the day it was caught!

We also offer Brixham landed seasonal fish such as Ling, Mackerel & Hake. Whilst these are not MSC certified, we still only use sustainably caught produce which is why our trusted supplier KINGFISHER, only use fish caught within their own sustainability guidelines.

Once delivered, our fryers & chefs cut & prepare each fish ready to serve you your perfect portion of the nations favourite dish!

Perfect Batter

Visit to Isle of Ely

Isle of Ely Produce and Chippy Chat invited chip shop owners & industry suppliers to their farm on Sunday September 11th and we were first in the queue for this FREE Fish & Chip Industry Day Out, which is one of the industry events of the year.

The event started at 9.30 am at the farm in Ely, Cambridgeshire with a coffee and a chance to talk to industry colleagues. It was invaluable, not only to find out first-hand how the potato crop is faring for 2022/23, but also to get an idea about predicted cost and quality of the crop for the year ahead.

There were also lots of key suppliers exhibiting/sponsoring on the day so it was great to catch up with those. We watched presentations from award winning fish and chip shop owners, giving valuable advice, and an intro from NFFF President Andrew Crook.

We had a visit to a key local farmer and saw first had the crop being harvested. We then had a tour around the storage facilities which also showed the sorting and grading methods used in the industry today, which was a real eye opener! It was great for us to get down and dirty and get a real feel for where our produce comes from – literally from the Field to the Fryer!

Awards & Affiliations

What we are proud of

The Q AWARD is run by the NFFF, of which we are proud members. We were the first in the bay to gain this accreditation in 2018, and have retained it every year since. In order to gain this prestigious award we had to show we follow best practices in all areas of our business, which in turn, enables us to produce the very best Fish & Chips. Wherever you see the big Q, you can be sure you will be receiving a quality product from one of the bet Chippies in the UK!

The Taste of the West Awards programme has been promoting and supporting the South West food and drink industry for three decades and is now the region’s most prestigious, sustainable food and drink awards programme. We are very proud member of Taste of the West and have a passion about the area and quality of the products that are produced here. We take pride in supporting our local suppliers where possible.

Lorraine was interviewed by the manufacturer of our fantastic range fryers used in both the takeaway and the restaurant. It was great to tell our Pier Point story and share some of our learnings.

Quote from the article “Just before the start of the pandemic, Lorraine Arnold bought her successful Paignton Pier Chippy model to Torquay with the opening of Pier Point, a 240 cover restaurant and takeaway. On top of the seven-figure sum paid for the building, Lorraine and her business partner committed a further £750,000 to refurbish the site.”

Local artist Laura Wall designs tea towel for hospice’s anniversary

Tea towel to raise vital funds for the hospice

Award-winning local artist, illustrator and author Laura Wall has designed a unique and special tea towel in celebration of Rowcroft Hospice’s 40th anniversary. Created in her signature pen and watercolour style, the tea towels are available in Rowcroft’s charity shops across South Devon with all profits going to care for local patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Teignmouth-based artist Laura Wall

“It’s been so much fun creating this exclusive tea towel for Rowcroft,” said artist Laura Wall. “I love creating little characters and these are all inspired by the people I have seen and jotted down in my sketchbook whilst at the seaside! I hope it makes a lot of people smile and raises some money for this fabulous charity.”
Best known for her award-winning children’s book series ‘Goose’ and for her fine art illustrations including her ‘Seaside’ collection typified by her trademark clouds and characters along with her bold, bright colours, Laura has her own gallery and studio in Teignmouth’s vibrant art quarter. Laura has an impressive number of awards to her name including National Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016 at the Venus Women Awards and Britain’s Best Up and Coming Artist in 2013. The Laura Wall Gallery won National Art Retailer of the Year 2022 by the Fine Art Trade Guild, and has twice been voted Devon’s Best Art Gallery by Muddy Stiletto readers.

A unique partnership

“We’re proud to be partnering with this talented local artist in launching this iconic tea towel as a special way of marking our 40 years of caring for the local community,” said Rowcroft Hospice’s CEO Mark Hawkins. “Laura’s fun, quirky and striking style makes her artwork extremely sought after by young and old alike, and we know that this adorable illustrative tea towel that’s inspired by the South Devon region will be a huge hit. We’re so grateful to Laura for her sterling hard work and support in this collaboration.
“We’d also like to thank our sponsors Pier Point for all their support with this exciting venture.”

The tea towel sponsors – Pier Point

Lorraine Arnold of Pier Point bar and restaurant in Torquay said:

“Pier Point is honoured to be part of this unique project that features the fabulous work of a brilliant local artist, celebrates Rowcroft’s 40th anniversary and raises much-needed funds for a very worthy cause. Let’s hope this is the first of many projects of this nature.”

An exquisite souvenir or gift

Rowcroft’s Head of Retail Caroline Wannell said:

“The tea towel makes a wonderful souvenir or gift with the profits from every purchase going to support the hospice in caring for our community,” said “Laura’s vibrant design highlights so many of the wondrous local attractions that we have here on our doorstep, and is a fabulous celebration of scenic South Devon and our marvellous community.”
