A Night to Remember: Pier Point x The Elephant Raise Over £2,000 for the Fishermen’s Mission
On Tuesday 25th November, Pier Point Bar & Restaurant proudly joined forces with The Elephant Restaurant for a very special culinary collaboration — a night filled with exceptional food, community spirit, and heartfelt purpose. Together, we raised an incredible £2,010.06 for the Fishermen’s Mission, supporting the vital work they do for fishing families across the UK.
The event, originally planned as part of England’s Seafood Feast, brought guests together for a memorable dining experience crafted by two award-winning kitchens: our own Pier Point chefs and the team from Torquay’s Michelin-starred The Elephant, led by acclaimed chef Simon Hulstone.

Supporting the Fishermen Behind the Fish
Every plate served on told a story — not just of flavour and craft, but of the hardworking fishermen whose livelihoods depend on the sea. The Fishermen’s Mission provides essential support to fishermen and their families, helping them through injury, mental health challenges, financial hardship and loss.
Helen Lovell-Smith, representing the Fishermen’s Mission, shared:
“We are incredibly grateful to both restaurants and everyone who attended. The fishing community faces daily risks, and events like this help us continue supporting those who work tirelessly to bring seafood to our tables.”
The evening featured an exclusive menu created by A COLLABORATION OF PIER POINT CHEFS TONY HETHERINGTON AND KELLY GUTOWSKI Michelin-starred chef Simon Hulstone, working alongside Pier Point’s talented kitchen team. Among them was Charlie James, currently in the running to be Drywite’s Young Fish Fryer of the Year in the National Fish and Chip Awards, who was “delighted to have the opportunity to work with Simon Hulstone” and gain valuable inspiration from one of Britain’s leading chefs.
Chef Patron of The Elephant, Simon Hulstone, praised the collaboration, saying:
“Torbay’s fishing community is the backbone of our restaurants, and supporting The Fishermen’s Mission is something close to my heart. Collaborating with Tony and the Pier Point team was a pleasure—events like this show just how strong and united our local hospitality sector can be.”

Community, Collaboration, and Giving Back
For Pier Point owner Lorraine Arnold, the event embodied everything she believes hospitality should be:
“Bringing people together for great food and a great cause is what our industry does best. I’m incredibly proud of the teams from both kitchens and so grateful to every guest who helped us raise such a brilliant amount. Supporting the Fishermen’s Mission means supporting the heart of our coastal community.”
The proceeds — including profits from the event and funds raised through a generous raffle — will go directly to helping fishermen and their families in times of crisis.
